AN angry Exmoor landlord, anonymously reported for allegedly breaking lockdown rules, has put his side of the story on a noticeboard in his village hall and advised informants to check the facts before making any further report to the police.
Keith Waterhouse, who has run the Badger’s Holt pub at Bridgetown for 15 years, put up his notice, headed ‘Dear Village’ after being visited by police following allegations that he had broken Covid regulations.
An Avon and Somerset police spokesperson later confirmed that visits had been made but no offences had been recorded.
Mr Waterhouse claimed that someone in the village rang the police after his daughter came to stay at the pub.
“She was in our bubble and was allowed to as a single parent with small children. It was totally within the Covid-19 rules.
“I would like to find out who reported me. They should have asked what the situation was first and I would have been happy to explain.”
A Bridgetown resident said: “Keith’s note didn’t pull any punches but he felt that being such a long-time member of the community, someone should have had the courtesy to talk to him first before going to the police, particularly as he felt he had a completely innocent explanation.”
