SIR — I read that the Minehead Visitor Centre is to close - well it was in a daft place anyway.
It was so handy for the Butlins crowd that they didn't need to go into the town centre and see the shops.
Now the district council can't afford to keep the centre open or at least provide an alternative service to fill the gap.
Has the council thought this through?
The district's main industry is tourism - just because the use of the information office has dropped, it doesn't alter that. That is a different problem that should have been addressed.
Will the council find alternative work for the residents of West Somerset who used to serve the tourists?
That is a large portion of the electorate who should be protected, as if they are not, they will have to find work by moving away, so reducing the population even more, ergo less income for the council.
Bryan Leaker said in last week's Free Press that the council couldn't even run a bath. I have had a similar thought for years but the word "brewery" was in there.
I have moved away but still feel for the old place so when will the council admit defeat and give up?
