COMMUNITIES that will be affected by the official go-ahead for Hinkley Point C power station can apply for grants from a £7.2 million funding pot to make life easier during disruption caused by building the £18 billion project, it was announced this week.

A West Somerset council spokesman said that money from the the Community Impact Mitigation Fund (CIM), secured from EDF Energy, is available for large and small projects which are directly linked to impacts from construction work.

Money from the fund, administered by West Somerset Council in partnership with Sedgemoor District Council, Somerset County Council and EDF Energy, is also available to improve the economic, social or environmental wellbeing of affected communities.

The West Somerset spokesman added: “Parish councils, town councils, community organisations, sports clubs and voluntary groups are all welcome to apply.

“Small grants are available up to £1000 with larger grants for those applicants who can successfully demonstrate how their project meets the CIM Fund’s criteria.’”
