SIR — If I may enter the debate re Butlins, we moved here comparatively recently and one of the reasons we chose Minehead was precisely because there is a Butlins, which will prevent the town going the way of so many other little seaside resorts and dying on its feet.
Personally, I love walking into town and seeing it filled with people who have chosen to spend their holidays here and who - hopefully - find it a welcoming place to be.
Incidentally, we moved here from a Midlands university town, and if some people here find holidaymakers to be a nuisance, then they should thank heavens they don't have to live among students.
In comparison with the students' anti-social behaviour, the riding of bikes on busy pavements, the careless discarding of beer cans and fast food remains, the 2am singing and shouting, the constant minor vandalism as they weave their way back to halls . . . no, give me our summer visitors any day!
