A PRAYER vigil is to be held in Minehead Baptist Church on Thursday (February 22) for imprisoned British-Iranian woman Nazanin Zaghari-Radcliffe.

Married to Richard Radcliffe, she was living and working in England and in April 2016 took her little daughter to visit her parents in Iran.

But as they waited in the airport to return home, she was detained for questioning, which escalated into four months in solitary confinement.

Nazanin had no access to daylight and underwent many interrogations, leaving her so weak she was unable to stand.

She was transferred to the notorious Evin prison, a cruel, dirty and overcrowded place with little contact with the outside world.

She has now been sentenced to five years in this place, accused of for plotting to overthrow the Government. She is struggling both mentally and physically.

Gabriela, her daughter, is now three years old and living with her grandparents, her passport having been confiscated. She has been allowed a few visits to see her mother.

Boris Johnson, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, went to Iran before Christmas but was unable to secure her release.

Thursday’s prayer vigil, in the sanctuary at the church, is between 11am and midday to pray for Nazanin’s health and her release. All are invited to take part.
