South Somerset District Council showed off its "green" energy scheme this week.
Two of the authority's Yeovil buildings (Brympton Way and Goldenstones) have recently switched to electricity generated from renewable sources such as hydro-electric power and wind turbines.
To help increase publicity, a press conference was organised at Goldenstones on Tuesday.
Environment portfolio holder Nick Speakman was there with council officials and a representative from Scottish and Southern Energy plc, the company providing the "green" electricity.
Councillor Speakman explained that Brympton Way and Goldenstones had been chosen because the two sites are in the council's top bracket when it comes electricity usage.
"We take very seriously our responsibility both to protect the environment and to conserve fossil fuels such as oil, coal and gas," he said.
"For example, our new office building at Churchfield in Wincanton has been designed to be very energy-efficient, and we will shortly be carrying out audits at Brympton Way and Lufton Depot to find more ways of reducing our energy consumption."
The council is not the first one to go "green". Scottish and Southern Energy accounts manager David Paulley said the company already had similar deals with local authorities in Salisbury, Greenwich, Forest of Dean and Eastleigh.
