A COMMUNITY swimming pool and radio station in Minehead and sculpture trails and free wifi for Watchet are among radical plans released this week by the towns’ coastal communities teams.

Over 100 coastal communities are involved in the ambitious scheme to drive forward growth in coastal areas by putting forward short, medium and long-term schemes and making towns better places to visit and in which to live and work.

The plans submitted to the Government by the teams include housing, business opportunities, jobs, skills, health and civic pride.

West Somerset and Minehead councillor Roger Thomas, who chairs the coastal communities team, said: “Minehead is a fabulous seaside resort and we don’t envisage changing that but we can no longer rest on our laurels and past glory.

“We have to work hard to maintain and grow our market share, develop our local businesses and nurture the talents and skills of our people.

“While we are clear about our short-term priorities, we are also focused on reaping the benefits of wider opportunities in the longer term."
