SECRETARY of State for Communities and Local Government Sajid Javid has formally acknowledged the submission of the proposal to create a new council covering Taunton Deane and West Somerset.

West Somerset scouting pair fund-raising to attend international jamboree in PolandThe submission was made at the end of March by the leaders of the two existing councils - Cllr Anthony Trollope-Bellew of West Somerset Council and Cllr John Williams of Taunton Deane Borough Council.
The proposal is for a single new district council bringing the two geographical areas together. Combined with modernising and streamlining operations, the4 councils say there would be savings of £3.1m a year.
The Secretary of State will consider the proposal and make a decision in due course.
