THE Liberal Democrats have their first representative on West Somerset Council for ten years after retired Exmoor sheep farmer Peter Pilkington won the Dunster and Timberscombe seat at last Thursday’s by-election with 49.7per cent of the vote.

What was regarded as a safe Conservative seat was last held by the Lib Dems 20 years ago.

The by-election was caused by the resignation of long-standing Conservative councillor Bryan Leaker.
