AVON and Somerset Police have stepped up their campaign against Minehead’s teenage vandals after complaints from civic leaders that not enough was being done to prevent rampaging youngsters frightening residents and causing thousands of pounds’ worth of damage.

Storm damage to boiler forces closure of Danesfield School for rest of weekAs reported in last week’s Free Press, town councillors had demanded to know why there had been no arrests when culprits were known to the police, and why policing in the town was left largely to local PCSO officers.
This week, a police spokesman told the Free Press that the police presence in Minehead had been increased and there was now a high-visibility team of officers solely concentrating on Minehead supported by other officers and response teams.
