POLICE have appealed for public help to find a West Somerset pensioner who has gone on the run after failing to appear in court for sentencing on theft charges.

A warrant was issued in April by magistrates for the arrest of 69-year-old Alexander Hewitt, from Treborough, but he has not been seen since.

A police spokesperson said: “Hewitt is known to travel around the country, but has most recently had links to the Watchet and Minehead areas.​

“If you know where Alexander is, please call 999 quoting reference 5226105750, or call 101 with any other information.”

Hewitt appeared in court in February and pleaded guilty to stealing money in Dunster Steep car park and St George’s Church, stealing a charity box in Tiverton and an RNLI box in Beer.
