POLICE have launched an appeal for witnesses after a man was attacked with a screwdriver in Minehead.

But the victim himself is amongst those being sought by officers in relation to the incident, which happened in The Parade in the early hours last Sunday as a group of men were reported to be fighting.

A spokesman for the Avon and Somerset force said officers were made aware of the incident at about 12.15am.

"A screwdriver was seen to be used to strike a victim," said the spokesman.

He said the three suspects were all white men and all believed to be aged about 21.

One was described as 5ft 9ins tall with short dark hair and wearing a green or grey top.

The second, about 6ft and of skinny build, had spiky dark coloured hair and was wearing a red body warmer.

He spoke with a Midlands accent - possibly Birmingham.

And the third was also of skinny build with black hair and about 5ft 11ins tall.

"We are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident who may have information to help our enquiries," said the spokesman.

"We would particularly like to speak to the victim of the assault."

Two men arrested on suspicion of affray following the incident remain on police bail pending further enquiries.
