SIR — Now someone in authority has seen sense and agreed to leave Minehead library in a central position, how about the library service exploring the possibility of enlarging the present facilities by roofing over the 'garden' to provide a computer room, thus releasing space for what a library traditionally was for – books! There must be statistics available for the ratio of loans per head of population. How do Minehead's figures compare with county and national statistics (both before and after the computerisation)? In view of the average age of the population of Minehead and surrounding areas, we need a well- stocked library here to meet a social need. With regard to the computerisation, it is only our personal observation, but they do seem to be used in the main by foreign students, particularly in the summer, and it would be interesting to know how many local people regularly use the facility and if they are inconvenienced at times. Do other people share our concern about Minehead library? Graham and Marion Davies, Welcombe Two, Ellicombe, Minehead.
