PUBLIC notices cover a range of applications, ranging from licensing applications for liqueur or entertainment to planning applications, roadworks, and other works.

Their intention is to inform communities of the latest plans in their area and such applications are considered for approval or refusal by local authorities.

Here are some of the latest applications submitted to Somerset Council for the West Somerset and Exmoor areas:

• Works to replace a water main will see Station Road, near Crowcombe Heathfield, closed from Monday, September 15, to Friday, September 19 between its junction with Bakers Orchard and Kings Acre.

• Openreach carrying out fibre cabling works means that High Street, Williton will be closed between the junction with Robert Street and the junction with Bridge Street from 6.30pm to 6am between September 2 to 4.

• Thorne Lane, near Exton, will be closed from 8am and 5pm between Monday, September 15, and Tuesday, September 16, in order to allow Kier to carry out barrier replacement works on behalf of Somerset Highways.

• The road from Frogwell Cross to Withywine Lane, Skilgate, is to be closed on Tuesday, September 16, from the hours of 9.30am to 3.30pm in order to allow Openreach to carry out pole replacement works.

• Cleeve Hill, Watchet, will be closed from its junction with Washford to the junction with Cleave Hill on Thursday, September 4, between the hours of 9.30am to 3.30pm to enable Openreach to carry out pole testing works. There is no alternative route for this closure.

• Pole testing works will also mean that the road from Wheddon Cross, Exton, to Bridgetown Road will be closed on Tuesday, September 16, from 9.30am to 3.30pm.

• Work by Wessex Water to reline a clay pipe and access manhole will mean that Great House Street, Timberscombe, will be closed from Tuesday, September 16 to Friday September 19. There is no alternative route for this closure.

• A temporary 20mph speed limit will be introduced at the A396 Cutcombe Hill, Timberscombe, to enable Kier, on behalf of Somerset Council, to carry out works to maintain safety of the highway following a major incident. Work is expected to take place from Friday, September 5, to Tuesday, March 31, 2026.

• A temporary 30mph speed limit will be introduced at A39 Williton to Bridgwater Road, Nether Stowey, from 9.30am to 3.30pm on Monday, September 15, to enable Openreach to carry out pole testing works.
