‘UNSETTLED’ was the word used by the UK’s Met Office to describe the weather across West Somerset this week as the heaviest snow of the winter fell on Wednesday and was followed by heavy rain and then sunshine.
Photographers were out and about, braving the showers, and made the most of the stunning views as a blanket of white covered the area. Take a look at the sights in our galleries below.

Snow covered road in the Quantocks
The snow brought disruption on the roads from one end of West Somerset to the other throughout Wednesday.
The A39 road was closed in Nether Stowey after two cars became stranded, and it was also closed as a result of drifting snow on Porlock Hill, where Travel Somerset described the scene as ‘spectacular’, while there were hold-ups in West Quantoxhead following a minor accident.

Snow falling near Wiveliscombe
Buses of Somerset suspended the No 28 and No 15 Minehead to Taunton and Bridgwater routes, and most school transport was also stopped. Farmers across Exmoor were praised for their help in quickly clearing smaller roads which were not visited by Somerset County Council’s gritting fleet.
Most schools shut or partially closed, although Kingsmead School, Wiveliscombe, initially opened only to later send pupils home again.
