EXMOOR'S own award-winning inventor Oliver Blackwell is branching into the world of medicine after creating two new pieces of equipment specifically for health care professionals.

Having already been critically acclaimed for his original "washdryiron" invention and picked up the national title Concept Designer of the Year award at just 23, Oliver is now working on a pain-reducing needle and an improved urine-testing device.

Both were developed in partnership with Dr David Berger of Dulverton's Exmoor Medical Centre.

Oliver, who lives in Bridgetown, said: "We already have many people screaming out for both products, so it's a huge business opportunity."

Oliver, 27, is currently working on a number of different products, including a tangle-free Revolution Ball extension lead, which is due to be sold through a major supermarket chain.

By the end of the year, he will have 20 different productions being sold globally through more than 100,000 outlets.

But he said he had only been able to work on a number of projects at the same time because of the support he received from specialists at Business Link.

"My business adviser there, Lloyd Brina, has been just fantastic. He's opened many, many doors for me, including an introduction to the Manufacturing Advisory Service South West.

"It's great to know that Lloyd is always there for me as someone to fire ideas at - from the website, to branding and marketing and to looking ahead at the future development of the business."
