WATCHET residents have been assured this week that work will continue on the breached harbour wall after concerns that the workforce had left and heavy equipment had been removed.

MP Rachel Gilmour helping charity with appeal for more West Somerset mentorsBut there will be a break of at least two weeks while the final design for the wall is completed and supplies of concrete and specialist machinery are sourced by construction experts.
“We have now reached the end of the second stage of the work to secure the breach at Splash Point,” a Somerset West and Taunton Council spokesman said.
“The void is filled with very large granite blocks and these have been secured together with marine grade concrete. A concrete foundation layer has also been completed which will ultimately be finished to provide a level surface on the East Quay.
“This work stood up well to the tides and wind last weekend. The final wall solution involves poured and reinforced concrete secured to the bedrock using steel piles.
“We now have to secure the machinery to undertake the piling work and procure the concrete and there will be a pause in operations while all this takes place.”
