SIR — I love gardens - gardening for me is a passion and I derive great pleasure from witnessing the yearly cycle of seasons, contributing in my own small way to the balance of nature by attempting to provide habitat for wildlife and a peaceful, pleasureable environment in which to practice my hobby.

Imagine then how dismayed I am to witness the annual desecration of one of our local amenities, the Parks Walk.

Each year I gaze in amazement at the piles of "prunings" that appear throughout the first section of this lovely walk, and although I appreciate that it takes a dedicated, knowledgable soul to treat each individual shrub and tree with the care it would receive in a private garden, I fail to understand why everything seems to be attacked with a chainsaw on a regular basis.

Would it be possible for our local council to have a good look at its management of this potentially beautiful area and consider the possibility of perhaps finding a contractor who could approach their work with some sympathy and understanding, thereby providing an open space which Minehead residents and local wildlife alike can enjoy?

Come on councillors, walk out there and have a look - would any of you like your own gardens to be treated so badly?
