SIR — I was disgusted to read that Cllr Hugh Davies tried to stop Williton from getting £250,000 towards the cost of our new pavilion (Free Press June 19). I think he needs to explain to the people of Williton why he tried to do this. He said that we should not get the money because there is no impact by Hinkley Point C on Williton. I feel there is an impact at present with the Washford Cross improvements – life is not easy in the village, in fact Williton is a mess because of the traffic flow, but we must have patience. The future impact could be colossal. With so many people working at the plant, Williton will need to have more housing, and our schools will probably need to be bigger. We will need recreation not only for the local people but for the new inhabitants too. We are entitled to this money and Cllr Davies, our local councillor, should be fighting to get it and not scupper it. Our parish councillors have worked hard to get this far with the pavilion, giving their time free of charge to make sure this is what the people of Williton really want. I would like to thank the district councillors for agreeing to give this much-needed money to Williton. Diane Hooper, Williton.
