A long-lasting process of finding the right lights for a car park has come to an end.

Lights were put up at the PC World/Allied Carpets car park off Lysander Road, Yeovil, without planning permission.

The original arrangement involved white light, which planners and nearby residents didn't like. Poor alignment was also reported last year, and district councillors decided to defer the retrospective planning application on two occasions.

Adjustments have now been made and orange light is in use. Two members of the public are still opposed to the lighting and had made representations to the council.

One of the objectors said the lighting was disturbing residents of Rustywell Park, especially those living close to Railway Walk. This resident also said the car park would operate just as well without the lights.

Councillors didn't see it that way and approved the application after having debated the matter.

* Another retrospective application relating to Allied Carpets was also approved. Permission for two air condition condensers was given after councillors heard that officers were now satisfied that that the noise could be kept at a reasonable level.
