Residents in Williton - old and young - took part in a special 'onesie' fundraiser to help keep a unique dementia awareness project on track.

Somerset charity Reminiscence Learning launched a pilot of the Archie Project - an intergenerational community initiative - in the village more than a year ago.

The story of Archie the scarecrow has been at the centre of efforts to dispel the stigma and fear of dementia amongst younger people or those with little knowledge.

And last week residents and staff at Croft House residential care home, along with youngsters from the Quantock Federation of schools - Danesfield Middle and St Peter's First in Williton and Old Cleeve First - donned their 'onesies' to help raise funds to allow the project to continue.

The schoolchildren have also been learning about Jack, who has vascular dementia, and have been taking part in a variety of activities learning about healthy living and exercise, as well as ways to help both Jack and Archie stay well and included within their community.

"Dressing up in onesies was a bit like a non-uniform day," said Fiona Mahoney of Reminiscence Learning, who wore a specially made Archie onesie for the event.

Future activities include a scarecrow parade in April, with links between Croft House and the school continuing with drumming and tai chi sessions and a fashion show planned.
