A FORMER police station and magistrates court in Minehead has been sold at auction for a figure well above its guide price.

The 17,380 sq ft building in Townsend Road, which includes two courthouses, the old police cells, and two residential flats, was auctioned by Hollis Morgan and went for £610,000, which was £60,000 above the guide figure.

Avon and Somerset Constabulary sold the property after relocating Minehead’s police station last year to new premises in Stephenson Road, opposite the town’s Tesco supermarket.

A spokesperson for Hollis Morgan said: “This large property and plot has scope for a wide range of residential or commercial development opportunities, subject to gaining the necessary consents.”

The identity of the new owner has not been disclosed.
