THE Lysaght Club in Old Cleeve celebrated the opening of its new boules pitch on Saturday (May 4) with an inaugural match.
President Tom Sutthery cut the ribbon and threw the first boule to the cheers of 50 club members and local villagers, who watched the match before having a go themselves.
Tom is pictured with club trustee David Tucker and onlookers.
Lysaght Club chairman Geoff Williams welcomed the onlookers and said: “The Lysaght Club offers a great social venue for local people. We have skittles, darts and snooker, and now the new boules pitch can be enjoyed by members and visitors.
“Our team, the Lysaght Lobbers, has its first boules match next week and we will be running a boules evening every Saturday throughout the summer.
“We hope that people will come along and enjoy a drink, play boules and enjoy the magnificent view across the community orchard to the sea.
“The boules pitch has been professionally built and I am sure that there are lots of people here tonight who will want to learn how to play.”
The evening concluded with members enjoying traditional French bread baguettes with cheese and pâté in the bar.
The Lysaght Club is open on Friday and Saturday evenings, Sunday lunchtimes and other days for events. It is run entirely by volunteers, and membership costs £10 per year. More information can be found on the Lysaght Club website.
