SIR — It was very interesting to read the letter in last week's Free Press regarding the disappearing road name signs in Minehead. We also had the same situation but this time the sign was removed by the council.
On inquiring to the council, I was informed the sign had broken away from the holding bracket so the road name sign was removed from the position in our boundary beech hedge. I offered to replace the broken holding bracket and install the road name sign into the original position at not cost to the council.
My offer was refused and I was told a new plastic road name sign would shortly be installed in the kerb line.
After nearly two months and many unanswered phone calls to the council, the problem was resolved by our local councillor. I was told by the council the next day that this work was now in the hands of their contractor. So a minimal task has turned into a costly
