A TEAM of nuclear police at Hinkley Point B has raised over £1,600 for the Alzheimer’s Society.

The officers from the Civil Nuclear Constabulary (CNC) raised the money with a week-long sponsored static cycle ride at the power station.

During National Dementia Action Week, the team set out to cycle a total of 1,325 miles – the distance between all of the sites in the UK for which CNC has responsibilities.

But the determined team beat its original target and cycled 1,690 miles.

PC Richie Johnson, who initially thought of the idea, said: “I wanted to organise an event during Dementia Action Week to raise money and increase awareness for the Alzheimer’s Society.

“The fantastic work they do towards transforming the landscape of dementia forever needs to be recognised."
