SIR — I write a week after a fire was discovered in Dulverton Residential Centre, which I manage.
Other providers of youth hostel accommodation on Exmoor will be encouraged to know that Dulverton Fire Brigade responded instantly, efficiently and with great courtesy.
A small fire was prevented from being a large fire. Fortunately the building was empty at the time.
As the fire could only have been started deliberately, it was immediately reported to the police.

The evidence will have gone cold by now, but I imagine if the police appear their advice will be that great care should be taken about ground floor security.
It is not nice to think that there is an arsonist in the community.
