SIR — In reply to your front page report on the West Somerset Crime and Disorder Partnership meeting 'Apathy reigns' (Free Press November 30), to imply that the residents of Watchet are not concerned about crime and disorder in the town is totally untrue.
Perhaps it would have been more constructive to ask why so few people turned up at the meeting. Was it because of bad PR?
I have yet to meet anyone from the town who knew about the meeting apart from a lady who was asked to display a poster in her shop window, which was so full of other posters that it was not noticeable.
Perhaps Mr Greenwood, who I understand organised the meeting, should have taken a leaf out of the book of the organiser of a previous meeting in Dulverton on November 16, 2000, who wrote to organisations inviting them to the meeting.

£3 million up for grabs as Watchet eyes title of first ever 'UK Town of Culture'As secretary to Watchet Mothers' Club I received an invitation but declined on behalf of members who felt unable to travel to Dulverton in inclement weather, but expressed an interest to attend a meeting should one be arranged in the Watchet area.
I was again contacted by Mrs Z Rowe (CCP Secretary) and advised of a meeting to be held on February 5, 2001, and duly sent copies of her letter to all our members, many of whom did attend a packed meeting.
In this instance I was not notified, nor did I see any posters or newspaper advertisement, nor was I one of the chosen 100 to receive a letter.
Should a further meeting be arranged I look forward to receiving details from the organiser.
Mrs A E Reeder,
Secretary,
Watchet Mothers' Club.
