The Brexit Counter Revolution had targeted me as an enemy of the people because of my historic record of writing to the Free Press frequently over the past 40 years.

I was forced to park in Watchet in order that I could visit the West Council Office - only to find that all the officers with whom I had had close contact with, taught or played in the same village cricket club, had been transferred to another authority. The offices had been cleared of all personal effects, fixtures and furnishings.

I was seeking validation of my passport that contained my visa in 1974 allowing me to be a permanent resident in West Somerset, but sadly the endorsements allowing me to wander the Quantocks had disappeared. Was I to be deported on a route 28 bus to the Neverlands of Taunton Deane?

Then I realised that Counter Revolution had discovered that I had voted for the banned Homes and Not Roads Party in the late 1950s in a local election in Shepherds Bush.

But all was not lost . . . my wife Jean has just arrived with a cup of tea to find me gibbering wide awake on my recliner.

Dystopian reality perhaps but it was truly a horrendous nightmare!

The reality is that the UK has been failed by its national politicians and the virtual collapse of its political institutions.

The many who have resided in the UK for all their lives but failed or did not require to obtain a passport are facing a dystopian future of uncertainty.

And my nightmare was a grim reality!
