A NEW safe play area for children at West Somerset Nursery School was opened by local celebrity GP Dr Paul Slade last Thursday.

Dr Slade, from Irnham Lodge surgery which featured in the television fly on the wall series Doctor's Orders, is the author of a book of the same name.

He is also joint landlord of the nursery premises in King Edward Road and was asked to officially open the playground.

"I am delighted to be asked to do the honours," said Dr Slade.

"The staff, committee members and parents have been working really hard all summer to raise funds to improve the play area at the front of the school and the end result is fantastic."

Also pictured at the opening are Tom and Elizabeth Hodges, who are neighbours and supporters of the school, and manager Angela Gardener standing on the right.

West Somerset Nursery School, which opened in March 1998, is a registered charity run by local parents for babies from three months old to children aged five.

Mrs Gardener said: "Thanks to the fundraising efforts of the parents and the kind donation from Mr and Mrs Hodges, we now have a really lovely safe play area for the children.

"I am grateful to all the parents who over several weekends helped to erect the gates and fencing.

"With the use of the playing field opposite, we are now lucky enough to have all-weather outdoor play facilities."
