A district council-run shop is to undergo a name change after customers complained it was almost impossible to find its number in the phone directory.

The Community Re-source Centre has been located on the Lynx trading estate for a number of years and is commonly known as either the scrapstore or loan centre.

Organisations meeting certain criteria can hire sports and play equipment at very low rates, and members of the public can purchase a wide range of cast-off material, for examples.

But customers wishing to check stock availability before travelling say it is near impossible to find the phone number for the store as they don't know exactly under what name it is listed.

As a result it has been decided to change the name, a move that will coincide with a marketing campaign to make more people aware of the shop.

Centre manager Lyn White writes in a report: "It is evident that there is a need to improve the marketing strategy. Before any new materials, leaflets and advertising are produced it would be an ideal opportunity to change the name.

"The name should be easily remembered, simple, provide an opportunity to create some designs for branding/logo and express what's on offer."

* The scrapstore will be offering what is known as calibration flag-making workshops from next month.

Community groups will be given an opportunity to make flags, banners or bunting from cast-off material. The workshops will take place in a number of village halls.

The scrapstore can be contacted on 01935 444501.
