AN initiative set up to help people in West Somerset get jobs has won support from community funding linked to the new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point C.

Community Employment Hubs have been set up in communities the district and volunteers have been recruited to support running the groups.

They offer help in CV writing, job applications, interview preparation and a relaxed environment to have a cuppa and a chat.

A successful application was made to the Hinkley Point C Community Impact Mitigation (CIM) fund to support the hubs project and to employ a hub development officer to support the hubs.

Over the next two years, the project aims to help more communities to set up their own employment hubs, creating a network across West Somerset.

The project will focus on strengthening links with local employers to create learning opportunities tailored to local need, increasing people’s chances of finding work locally and helping the hubs to continue to support their communities into the future.

As a result of the CIM funding, the new hub development officer, Colleen Blake, has worked with the community to open a new hub in the Stogursey and the Quantock Vale area.
