A NETHER Stowey pensioner died in a collision between a car and a school bus on the A39 near Cannington last Friday.

Jarvis John Condon, 72, was driving a Mercedes from Bridgwater towards his home village when he was in collision with a coach travelling in the opposite direction.

The bus was carrying schoolchildren. No-one on board was reported to have been injured.

Mr Condon was treated at the scene but died soon afterwards.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash, which happened at 2.30pm, or for anyone who may have seen the vehicles beforehand.

The road was closed until early evening to allow investigators to carry out a detailed examination of the scene.

In a statement, Mr Condon's family said: "Jarvis was also referred to by his middle name, John.

"He was a much-loved member of his local community."
