MINEHEAD Museum has closed the doors at the end of what was described as an ‘interesting’ season – and ambitious plans are now well under way for next year, it was announced this week.

Curator Julian Luke said: “I would like to thank all who have helped in stewarding and behind the scenes for making our comeback such a success. The immense effort involved in getting everything ready for opening has been fully justified.

“The new displays, particularly on the pier and on the hobby horse were much appreciated by visitors. The number of visitors was very encouraging, as was the number of new stewards who came forward to help this season. There is every indication that next year we will back up to the 2019 level of visitors.”

Work has now begun on the displays for next year including features on Arthur C. Clarke, the photographer Alfred Vowles and the 60th anniversary of the opening of Minehead Butlin’s.

Planning is also under way to try and secure the long term future of the museum, building on the success of the last seven years. The museum is based in part of the Beach Hotel owned by the YMCA whose support has been invaluable in establishing the museum as a major attraction in the town.

Along with new displays and publications, the museum expects to return to running a programme of talks in the New Year.

More information on the museum can be found at www.mineheadmuseum.co.uk and offers of donations or help can be made via the website or by contacting [email protected]

The museum will be open in 2022 from the end of March to the end of October.
