SUNDAY saw more than 100 cyclists tackle the sixth annual Tanks Direct Porlock Hill Climb.
On a blustery day, riders of all ages and abilities pitted their strength, endurance and determination against the four-mile climb from sea level Porlock village to the iconic AA box 400 metres higher at the top of the toll road.
Local rider Geoff Ware was awarded the marshals’ cow bell prize, a special award for the cyclist who most impressed the volunteer marshals. Exmoor farmer Geoff eschewed traditional cyclists lycra and brought a touch of sartorial elegance to the race in country casual attire.
Race director Louise Crossman thanked all the volunteer helpers and supporters for making the event such as success.
“We are really grateful for all the help and assistance that we get in organising the hill climb each year. It has become a very popular event and is particularly noted for how friendly everyone involved is,” she said.
