MEMBERS of the Holnicote Residents Association have called for a meeting with area traffic engineer Richard Newby in their battle to improve road safety along the A39 between Minehead and Porlock. The group has written to Mr Newby renewing their calls for action after another accident on the stretch of road, this time close to the Luccombe turning. As previously reported in the Free Press, the association is spearheading a campaign for road safety improvements and has called on Mr Newby to take personal responsibility for the safety of the road. In their letter, association chairman David Dalton, said: "We will happily meet with you and anyone else involved to show the dangers of the road. "We, and we assume, all reasonable people seek to prevent further tragedies and would appreciate your prompt response on what is to be done." Mr Dalton said he had been "astonished" to learn that it was likely nothing would be done to slow down traffic on the road until there had been two fatalities.
