I was delighted to read that our excellent council staff have, with due diligence and much effort,managed to pursuade the European Union to return a portion of our monies to fund Minehead’s ‘Maritime Mile’ project (Free Press October 20).

We know that since joining this ill-fated group we have put billions and billions more into their pot than we have received back

The report does not state what proportion of the total cost this sum represents, but one thing is certain - that at the end there will be the obligatory photograph taken and a blue plaque unveilled, even though all of the costs will be paid for by our own hard-earned cash.

However, it’s a great comfort to know that this state of affairs is rapidly coming to an end and that we will be able to do away with all this expensive nonsense.
