FORMER Minehead Barbarians player Danielle Waterman suffered bitter disappointment on Monday when Team GB’s women’s rugby sevens team missed out on a medal at the Rio Olympics.

Danielle, known as Nollie, played a key part as the team stormed through their group stage with commanding wins over host nation Brazil (29-3), Japan (40-0) and Canada (22-0) then won their quarter-final against Fiji 26-7.

But the team’s performance against New Zealand in the semi-final didn’t match their earlier ones and they were beaten 25-7.

Despite missing out on the final, they still had a chance of a bronze medal in a play-off with the other losing semi-finalists Canada.

But there was to be no repeat of their group stage win over them as the Canadians overpowered them 33-10.
