A 33-metre-high observation wheel is returning to Minehead seafront – but not in time for Easter as originally planned.

Rescheduling by the wheel’s owner has meant that the lofty attraction will be giving passengers a bird’s-eye view of Minehead from May 25 to June 18, covering school half-term holidays.

The wheel will be assembled on the Warren Road site on May 22 to 24 and dismantled on June 19 to 21.

“It was a really successful attraction in the town last year and already people are looking forward to the wheel’s arrival,” said Minehead Events Group member Richard Lillis.

“It will help create an enjoyable and vibrant seasonal attraction for all the family.”

When the wheel first arrived for an eight-week run in July 2016, more than 30 residents of nearby flats complained that they were being overlooked by passengers and had not been consulted beforehand.

“There are still a few people who are not too happy,” Mr Lillis said. “But this year we have done a full consultation and most nearby residents accept that we are providing a valuable tourist attraction for the good of the town.”
