SIR — It was a delight to read Page 3 of your January 6 issue, with the positive messages from our local MP, the leader of West Somerset Council, the opposition leader of that council, and the Mayor of Minehead.
We were also able to read good news about the visit in 2017 to Minehead by the Antiques Roadshow as the first stop in its 40th anniversary tour; this will be seen on TV by millions of viewers.
In addition, Minehead’s profile will be boosted by the hugely prestigious visit of the Flying Scotsman; this will attract tens of thousands of visitors and day-trippers and will be broadcast in many countries around the world.
How disappointing, therefore, to read the distinctly downbeat opinions from the chairman of Minehead’s Chamber of Commerce, criticising just about everyone else without offering anything positive.

Minehead has so much to offer in the natural beauty of the surroundings, a picturesque harbour, the friendliness of the locals, and the facilities expected in a resort, that many people return year after year (some of them are so happy they never leave!).
