THE Minehead 2000 Photo Competition passed the halfway mark on Saturday when the second set of winners was announced.

Five different aspects of the life of the town were depicted in the second of the quarterly competitions being held to mark the millennium.

The Somerset Stages Rally was captured for posterity along with the harbour and the Hobby Horse, the bowling club and a butcher's shop.

Three of the four categories had outright winners while the fourth, 'leisure and entertainment', was won jointly by Reita Sillett, who photographed the Hobby Horse, and Peter Oyston, for his shot of the Somerset Stages.

Winner of the 'holidaymakers' category was Ailsa Newton for 'The Harbour', Christine Kershaw won the 'sport' category with 'The Bowling Club' and Eunice Greenway's photo 'Butcher's Shop' won the 'people at work' category.

Sponsors of the March to June competition, Fotostop, presented gift tokens and is displaying the winning pictures at its premises in The Avenue.

Entries for the next quarterly competition should be in by Friday October 6 at the Town Hall, where rules and other details are available.
