SIR — The public meeting at the Hobby Horse over the Minehead Key Sites plans was momentous. It was a mighty demonstration by residents that they reject the undemocratic West Somerset District Council. The hall was filled with very determined and angry people, ignored by those they elected to serve their interests - councillors who have allowed their powers to be usurped by unelected officers. It was a meeting of hearts and minds with all but one united in purpose. It was stirring and exciting to see such unanimity of purpose. These are not negative people, but they are people who have finally woken up. They demand to take part in decision-making that affects where and how they live and they will no longer accept passively their disenfranchisement. I would take issue with the chairman on one thing. He said that "people could not keep on procrastinating and delaying". Where did those words come from? Those words have not been heard in this matter before. Everyone knows that there has been no procrastinating, nor any delaying. What there has been is out-and-out rejection of these plans. John Holden, Catwell, Williton.
