A MEDIEVAL fair will be the setting for the long- awaited 'Veiling the Virgin' event at St Mary's Church, in Bishops Lydeard. Supporters have been busy selling 40,000 colourful strips of plastic for at least £10 each in a bid to raise more than £400,000 to pay for urgently needed roof repairs. Already more than £305,000 has been raised through the unique scheme and the fair on September 10 will see the plastic strips draped across the church accompanied by a light and sound show. The church will remain "veiled" for three days.
