GUYS and Dolls – MATA’s summer show – opens at The Regal Theatre, Minehead, on Wednesday (August 8).

With music and lyrics by Frank Loesser, and based on the story and characters of David Runyon, Guys and Dolls won a bevy of awards after opening on Broadway in 1950.

It includes favourites like Fugue for Tinhorns, Luck Be a Lady and Sit Down, You’re Rocking the Boat.

The hot gamblers are in town, and they are all depending on Nathan Detroit to set up this week’s incarnation of ‘The Oldest Established Permanent Floating Crap Game in New York’. The only problem is, he needs $1000 to find a safe place for the game.

In the mix are Sarah Brown, who is short on sinners at the mission she runs; Sky Masterson, who accepts Nathan’s $1000 bet that he can’t get Sarah Brown to go with him to Havana; Miss Adelaide, who wants Nathan to marry her; and police Lieutenant Brannigan, who always seems to appear at the wrong time.

Guys and Dolls runs until Saturday, August 18. Performances begin at 7.30pm and tickets at £9 adults, £8.50 Friends of the Regal, £4.50 for 16s and under and ES40s, £20 family ticket are  available from the box office on 01643 706430.

There will be no performance on Sunday, August 12 and no matinées.
