THE Minehead EYE youth and community centre is to receive £147,729 over three years to help young people and families across West Somerset.

The money is coming from the Youth Investment Fund – a £40 million pot of funding from the government and the Big Lottery Fund to boost the skills and life chances of young people in disadvantaged areas.

Minehead EYE will use the money to support, develop and enhance the five West Somerset youth clubs it currently delivers to.

It will develop six-week courses for each club aimed at increasing young people’s aspirations, skills, confidence and employment opportunities through activities that span music, media, sports and the arts.

Over the next three years, it also aims to establish and support three new youth clubs in West Somerset where no youth provision currently exists.

‘We are delighted to be given this opportunity by the Department of Culture, Media and Sport and the Big Lottery to support West Somerset’s young people and their communities,” said Minehead EYE chairman Naomi Griffith.
