They then paraded to the competition venue (The Triangle, Middle Street) via King George Street and The Borough. After an opening cry by Mr Trigger, competitors took turns to deliver a cry each relating to their respective towns. After the lunch break, the exercise was repeated - with the only difference being that town criers had the choice to base their cry on whatever subject they wished. Winners were announced at Globetrotters, South Street, where Lyme Regis town crier Phil Street was awarded the title. He was followed by Pluto Venn (Weston-super-Mare) in second place and Paul Gough (Nuneaton) in third spot. Trevor Heeks of Trowbridge won the Best Dressed Crier category while Best Dressed Escort honours went to Dulcie Purchase of Newton Abbott. The combined category of Best Dressed Crier and Escort was won by Steve and Caroline Cunliffe from Dawlish.
