Mrs Rawle, of Bridicott Farm, Carhampton, invited to her home 25 of the oldest women of the village and gave them tea. A conveyance was provided for those too infirm to walk.

100 years ago – August 9th 1919

General unrest throughout the country was reflected at Minehead where there was a strike of about 70 building workers. They wanted an increase of 3d per hour for carpenters, masons, painters and labourers. Ultimately, this would be granted.

50 years ago – August 9th 1969

Villagers of Carhampton came together with true community spirit to share in the revival of their flower show and fete, which had not been seen since the 1930s.

25 years ago – August 12th 1994

The new St Peter’s primary school in Williton would have state-of-the-art ’green’ features such as solar panels that could change the future design of the county’s schools.
