AN extended third edition of A History of Watchet will be launched tomorrow (Saturday) at the Sanctuary in Swain Street.

The book was first published in 1855 and was an immediate success. Its author, well-known scholarly writer Leslie Wedlake, was born and educated in Watchet.

In 1973, the second edition was published, with a short extension by Leslie Wedlake, and this too was a sell-out.

The third reprint has been in much demand for some time. It is larger – 160 pages of A4 hardback – and Paul Upton has updated it, including many more photographs extra maps and additional line drawings.

Paul will be at the launch, from 10am to 2pm, where tea, coffee, cake and biscuits will be provided.

Donations towards the publishing of the third edition have been made by Watchet Market House Museum, Watchet Conservation Society and Watchet Community Bookshop.

It is published by Halsgrove and costs £24.99.
