A SWEDISH psychological thriller movie is to be given several screenings across the West Somerset and Exmoor area in which it was filmed.

Unmoored’ is an adaptation of the novel ‘The Living and Dead in Winsford’, written by award-winning Swedish crime author Håkan Nesser during the time he lived on Exmoor.

It was shot largely on location across the national park, in and around Simonsbath and its Exmoor Forest Inn pubic house, as well as the Barle Valley, Exford, Minehead, and Wiveliscombe.

The movie will launch the 30th anniversary celebrations of Minehead’s Regal Film Society on Tuesday, September 2.

Tickets for the 7.30 pm screening cost £6, or £4 for Regal Film Society members and students and those with ES40s, and are available from the theatre’s box office.

First, however, ‘Unmoored’ will have two showings in Dulverton Town Hall on Saturday, August 30, at 3.30 pm and 7.30 pm.

Town hall trustees were delighted to obtain a license so quickly, particularly as the film has received much publicity in local media.

Because it is partly subtitled, the number of seats for the Dulverton screenings has been restricted to ensure audiences can read the subtitles.

Dulverton Film members can buy tickets for £3, and non-members for £5, available from the Thrift shop or by emailing [email protected].

There will also be a screening by Watchet Cinema in Knights Templar Church of England and Methodist School on Friday, September 12, at 7 pm, where tickets cost £4 and can be booked online through eventbrite or by calling 07557 734795.

The Regal will open its bar from 6.30 pm for the ‘Unmoored’ evening and is offering a free celebratory glass of sparkling wine to everybody who attends.

A spokesperson said: “New members are always welcome to join one of the most successful film societies in the UK.

“We are looking for help with film projection and administration to build on strong foundations and take the film society forward.

“Full training and induction are provided.”

Unmoored’, shot in late 2021, is directed by Caroline Ingvarsson and tells of successful Swedish television presenter Maria Holinek, whose life is turned upside down by shocking accusations made against her husband.

They head south on a sabbatical to avoid the media attention, but an unexpected confrontation triggers a desperate chain of events.

Maria flees alone to the solitude of Exmoor, where her new idyll soon turns to paranoia and as her guilt grows, she is forced to examine the depths of her own self-deception in this psychological suspense drama.

The film will be available on major streaming platforms from mid-September, including Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV.

It is expected to provide another boost in Exmoor visitor numbers as filmgoers want to see the locations for themselves, in similar fashion to the recent British movie ‘The Salt Path’, which tells the story of a couple who walk the South West Coast Path.
