A ‘BIG water watch’ and community litter pick is being organised in Minehead for the early spring Bank Holiday weekend.

Anybody who wants to take part is being invited to meet at the Channel Adventure Centre, Warren Road, for a 10 am start on Saturday (May 3).

The event will run until 1 pm, following which tea, coffee, hot chocolate, cakes, and activities will be available in the centre.

People taking part will be able to learn how to test and record water quality or join a community beach clean to help remove plastic from the sea front.

A spokesperson said: “Alongside this, we will also be hosting a fun sea glass treasure hunt and craft activities back at the adventure centre.

“Choose to take part in a craft activity to decorate your own mini glass jars to take with you on your litter pick to collect sea glass and nature treasures from the beach while doing the litter pick.

“Come and be part of something meaningful.”

The event is being organised by Minehead and Coast Development Trust (MCDT) and the National Trust, which will provide free water quality testing kits and will audit the litter pick.

The water quality testing kits will be used to test the Bratton Stream fresh water which flows out to the sea off Minehead beach.

The litter pick and beach clean volunteers will split into small groups to head out across the area before returning to the adventure centre.

Anybody who wants to take part can just turn up on the day, although the organisers are asking them to sign up online to help with working out how many cakes to provide.

MCDT is also organising the free annual Minehead Bay Festival on the sea front which will take place this year on August 30.
