MINEHEAD Library unveiled self-service technology and a fresh new look when it re-opened on Monday.

It had been temporarily closed for new equipment to be installed and for refurbishment works.

Users can now borrow and return books, DVDs and other materials using self-service kiosks which are designed to reduce queues and free staff for other tasks.

Cllr David Hall, Somerset County Council's cabinet member with responsibility for libraries, said: "Staff will be on hand to help people get to grips with the new technology.

"We've already successfully introduced self-service in seven of Somerset's busiest libraries and I'm sure it will prove just as successful in Minehead."

Library users will need to have their membership card and PIN with them to use the kiosks.

Anyone who does not have a PIN or has forgotten it should ask a member of library staff for help or telephone 0845 3459177.

l Minehead Register Office has relocated to the new-look library and is open on Tuesdays from 9am to 12.30pm and 1pm to 3pm and Thursdays from 9am to 12.30pm and 1pm to 3.30pm. People should phone 01643 703219 to make an appointment.
